In Japan, caucasian models – being so different from the japanese type- are extremely popular and as the beauty standards slightly differ from the European or the North American ones it is not an impossible thought to try modelling for anyone who looks normal or average with normal weight and height.

 

Fashion is very important for japanese people, so anyone trying to make luck on modelling has the good chance to work and be featured in one or more of the dozens of different japanese fashion magazines and journals.

 

There are several model agencies always looking for caucasian models and the payment is enough to cover the necessary costs, or even a lot more if someone get’s lucky although it’s better to start with friends, or to rent a shared appartement concerning the very expensive rental and daily costs especially in the main cities as Tokyo, Yokohama or Osaka.

 

The most important is to make a contract which is also the challenge of it all, and as this job can easily be started without actually speaking a word in Japanese it’s easy to accomplish, but as it’s always a slightly unsure market I would suggest for the ones who get this chance to model in Japan, and wish to spend a longer time over there, like more than a few months, to start learning japanese as soon as they can, because it’s very necessary in daily life especially when someone might need to get another or a part-time job.

As Japan is a country with a unique mother tongue both in speaking and in writing, learning foreign languages has always been a bit problematic for japanese, which might seem funny, considering the fact that most of them start studying at least one foreign language -mostly english- from an early age.

But thanks to the spelling and writing difficulties they have to face, and the bad system of teaching foreign languages in schools most japanese do not actually speak in english and even those who do, they don’t get along easily with the speaking part, but only in writing.

I think many of the younger and braver fans of japanese culture and lifestyle have been already considering getting a job easily and efficiently in this beautiful and special country and one of the keys to get a well-paid job, with less effort is definitely teaching foreign  languages.

Considering the importance of english in the world , and the key role of the United States on japanese culture I can say, those who are americans, british, irish or by any chance australians,they can hit the jackpot even without any previous teaching experience.
